Tennis results – Friday, 5 February

Senior Boys’ First Team

The senior boys’ first tennis team had a close and tough encounter against Strand High School in a league match on their courts on Friday. The College team was weakened by the absence of our number one player, Charles Fauël, who is nursing an injury at the moment. Tanguy Jongen, Clive Nicolle, Jacques Morris and Jordan Haantjes found Strand too strong and we lost this fixture by 2 matches to 4. Tanguy who played at number one and Jacques who played at number three excelled when they both won their singles.

Under 15 Boys’ Tennis Team

In a very closely contested and exciting league fixture the Somerset College U15 boys’ tennis team beat Parel Vallei on our courts with 37 games to 32 on Friday afternoon. Well done to Nicholas de Waal and Jonathan van Druten who played at numbers one and two respectively and who won both their singles and doubles matches. The other two players in the team were Alex Brody and David Irwin.

Under 15 Girls’ Tennis Team

The U15 girls’ tennis team from Somerset College played against Rhenish on the College courts in a league fixture on Friday. Although we drew the match with 3 matches all, Rhenish eventually won because they had 9 more games than us. Well done to Rebecca Brody and Annalie Swanepoel who played at numbers one and two respectively and who both won their singles and doubles matches. The other two players in the team were Yanti de Villiers and Bridget Gardiner.
