Charles Fauël, Kiera van Eeden (captain), Mark Reuter (captain), Olivia Fauël, Josh Henderson, Rebecca Brody, Rory Lennon, Annalie Swanepoel, Marc Dukes, Alex Wiliams, Tanguy Jongen and Tegan O’ Grady represented Somerset College at the annual Hilton / St Anne’s Tennis Tournament which took place at the two schools from 1-4 October.
This tournament consists of three competitions: boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. The boys won their matches against Penryn College and St Albans College, but lost to St Johns College and Clifton College. The boys’ team eventually finished in 5th position out of 8 schools.
The girls won their matches against Penryn College and Kingswood College, but lost to Roedean School and St Mary’s Kloof. The girls’ team also managed a 5th position out of 8 schools.
In the mixed doubles Somerset College beat Penryn College and Kingswood College, but lost to the combined teams of St Johns and Roedean as well as the combined teams of Clifton and St Mary’s Kloof. Once again, we managed a 5th position out of the 8 schools.
Although all 12 players contributed to our success at the tournament, special mention must be made of Tegan O’ Grady and Tanguy Jongen who were unbeaten in the mixed doubles competition. Rebecca Brody and Annalie Swanepoel, both Grade 8 students, also impressed the coaches from other schools.
