Sport for rest of term one and winter seasons
Summer sport will end on the weekend of 3, 4 March. This decision was made due to the condition of the fields, lack of a pool and giving winter sporting codes the opportunity to train in the afternoon instead of in the morning before school. We will still play tennis, water polo and cricket matches during the week leading up to 10 March.
If the current situation continues, our biggest concerns are:
- Condition of the fields for rugby and cricket
- Only the Astro can be used for hockey training
- Hosting fixtures
All the hockey coaches sat together and worked out a schedule that will firstly allow all the touring teams enough time to prepare and then in the second term allow all the teams enough time to train. It is not ideal, but I trust our coaches will ensure all teams get the best possible coaching, match preparation and opportunities to play fixtures.
We are still waiting for official notification regarding rugby fixtures from WP Youth Rugby. We will start training and preparing for the under 16 and 19 rugby festivals. All coaches will plan for effective sessions using both the fields and gym for skills and conditioning.
All other sports practises will continue as normal.
Somerset College will continue to organise home and away fixtures for all our teams. We will need to think creatively how to host home fixtures in the current drought.
Proposed sports programme:
Please note the difference in the hockey programme for the remainder of term 1. The Maties Astro is under construction, but with the longer days, we are able to fit in 3 sessions on an afternoon.
