Somerset College hosted Wynberg, Rondebosch and Paul Roos in their annual T20 tournament.
Anticipation was high for the College supporters as they looked to the team to repeat the heroics of the previous year where they had won the tournament for the first time.
Somerset College were drawn against Rondebosch for the first game on the Taberer oval.
An inspired bowling performance by William Sendin of 4 for 10 in his 4 overs restricted Rondebosch to 94 for 9.
Somerset College had a horrendous start losing their first 3 wickets for 5 runs, then being 23 for 5. Vezi Mntungwa and Sam Henderson then batted well putting on a partnership of 58 runs to get college close to the Rondebosch total. Sadly college fell 3 short, thus losing the game by 3 runs.
In the other semi-final game Paul Roos posted 157 for 8 and bowled Wynberg out for 139.
In the 3rd and 4th play-off game Somerset College batted first and got off to a flyer against Wynberg with Marcus Nel scoring 55 and Franco Carstens 44. The College batting stuttered along and only managed to get to 160 when on course for over 200.
Wynberg scored freely from early on and passed the College total with only 3 wickets down. Somerset College lost by 7 wickets.
In the final Rondebosch were always on top against Paul Roos. Paul Roos batted first and only managed to get 102 for 9. Rondebosch then batted sensibly and passed the total with 4 wickets down thus winning by 6 wickets!
Thank you to all the parents of the Cricket Section who gave of their time to support the T20 and particularly those who helped with the making and selling of food to raise funds for the Cricket Section.
