Redistribution of Mrs Janine Tessendorf’s roles

Dear Parents

Clarification regarding the distribution of Mrs Janine Tessendorf’s roles

Firstly, I want to reiterate my thanks to Janine for the excellent work she has done for Somerset College over the past ten years, and to wish her well in her new position.

Secondly, I want to thank those who have expressed their willingness to take up the reins that Janine will be laying down, and to let you know what is envisaged so that we all have clarity with regard to responsibilities and lines of communication.

Academic Director:
Mrs Antoinette Beck will continue in this role.

Academic Discipline (plagiarism and student compliance):
This role will be transferred to Mrs Antoinette Beck, with Mr Alwyn Brink continuing his role in this area.

Assessment policy and appeals or queries:
This role will be transferred to Mr Gareth Tucker.

Awards:
The administration of the awards criteria and systems will be carried out between Mrs Antoinette Beck and Mrs Heather Good.

Cambridge English Teaching:
Mrs Antoinette Beck will continue in this role.

Deputy Head Academics/Pastoral Care:
This role will remain vacant for now, with Mr Gareth Tucker acting in it (as it pertains to academics), in addition to his current responsibilities.

Faculty Head: Arts and Humanities
This role will remain with Mr Gareth Tucker.

Faculty Head: Innovation
This role will remain with Mrs Antoinette Beck.

Faculty Head: Sciences
This role will be transferred to Mr Alwyn Brink from Mrs Janine Tessendorf.

Founders Day event coordination:
Mrs Annaleen Matthee will take this role.

Grade 12 Science teacher:
Mrs Janine Tessendorf will retain this role for the remainder of term 2. With effect from the beginning of term 3, we have secured the services of Mrs Kate Hampton, a superbly qualified replacement who has served as HOD of Science at The Wykeham Collegiate, and then at Kingsmead College. She has also served as an IEB Senior Sub-examiner for the Grade 12 Physics examinations.

Grade 11 Science teacher:
Mr Gareth Tucker has this role for the remainder of term 2. With effect from the beginning of term 3, we have secured the services of Mrs Kate Hampton, a superbly qualified replacement who has served as HOD of Science at The Wykeham Collegiate, and then at Kingsmead College. She has also served as an IEB Senior Sub-examiner for the Grade 12 Physics examinations.

Grade 9 Science:
Mrs Ray Renaut has this role for the remainder of term 2. Head of Pastoral Care:
Mrs Daniella Randall will continue in this role.

IEB Examinations officer:
Mrs Mandy Gibson will continue in this role.

IEB liaison:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Antoinette Beck and involves: managing the teacher data base; responding to and distributing IEB circulars; matric examination registration, entries and correspondence.

Internal examinations officer:
Graham Sayer will take this role for the May-June 2018 session.

Matric Dance:
This role will be transferred to Ms Richelle van Zyl.

Matric Dinner 2018:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Helen Tucker in combination with Mrs Melanie Barnard and the Grade Head of the year [Mrs Kathy Kruyshaar for 2018].

Matric Farewell Assembly:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Daniella Randall in her capacity as Head of Pastoral Care.

Mentorship assembly and programme:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Daniella Randall in her capacity as Head of Pastoral Care.

Monitoring of internal examinations protocols (including the stocking of the safe and the ordering of examination papers and the curation of the memorandums file):
Mrs Heather Good and Mrs Gillian Wyness will run the system and Mrs Antoinette Beck will liaise with staff regarding compliance.

Orientation programme for Grade 8s and other new students (including tutor group and class allocations):
This role will be transferred to Mrs Daniella Randall in her capacity as Head of Pastoral Care.

PDP (Personal Development Program for Grade 11s):
This role will be transferred to Ms Emma Boshoff.

Pops concert event coordination:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Annaleen Matthee.

Proofreading coordination:
Mrs Antoinette Beck will continue in this role.

Public Relations Portfolio:
Mr David Scott and Ms Maud Xauka will share this role.

Report exceptions, promotion schedules and mark readings:
These roles will be transferred to Mrs Antoinette Beck. With regard to mark readings though, Grade Heads will conduct the analyses and Mrs Antoinette Beck will coordinate and collate.

Subject counselling and student performance and assistance:
This role will be transferred to the SDU.

Subject choices and changes (information, publication and administration):
Mr Gareth Tucker and Mrs Heather Good will run these.

Tutor group 11 HG
This role will be transferred to Ms Jeanna Wessels.

Valedictory service:
Mrs Helen Tucker, Ms Kathy Kruyshaar, Mr Gareth Tucker and Mrs Melanie Barnard will work together on this.

Vertical/family groups:
This role will be transferred to Mrs Daniella Randall in her capacity as Head of Pastoral Care.

With regard to communication lines, please follow the usual channels: either from Tutor, to Grade Head, to Head of Pastoral Care, to Deputy, to Head of School; or from Tutor, to subject teacher to HOD, to Faculty Head, to Deputy, to Head of School.

Finally, please let us know if you would like further clarity, and please keep the communication channels open as we move into this period of adjustment together.
