Prep Hockey News – 6, 8 and 15 August

Hockey

Almost all of our boys and girls played in a match this past fortnight. On the 6th of August we hosted five different schools; namely Ikwezi, Dr Joubert, Temperance Town, Sir Lowry’s Pass and De Hoop. We did really well, winning the majority of our matches. Our U13A teams played Ikwezi from Khayelitsha. The boys lost their match against very skilful opposition. Our girls, however, proved themselves to be too strong and comfortably won their encounter.

WPPS Boys U13A Hockey Festival

Our boys and their parents enjoyed travelling through to WPPS on the Saturday of the long weekend to play some of the top hockey-playing schools in the province as well as Cordwalles, a team touring from Pietermaritzburg. We played five games of 25 minutes each on the Herschel astro. The top team at the festival was Bishops, who comfortably won all their matches. Despite a few injury concerns and a depleted bench, our boys worked hard in every game and can be proud of their performances overall. We lost 0-4 to Sweet Valley and 1-2 to Cordwalles, and went on to beat WPPS 5-2 and Reddam 2-1.

Kenridge Primary U12 Hockey Festival

The U12A boys and girls took part in a hockey festival on Saturday morning at Kenridge Primary School. The weather was dreadful, but the players were up for the challenge and enjoyed the morning. The emphasis of the festival was for the teams to learn how to play full-field hockey in preparation for U13 hockey next year. Although the girls won two matches and narrowly lost two by one goal each, they played some good, structured hockey throughout the morning. The boys played three matches. They comfortably beat Durbanville 5-0, won against Welgemoed 1-0 and drew to hosts Kenridge.

Overall, it was a great day with super performances. Parents and spectators complimented our boys and girls on their manners and encouragement throughout the day. The support from parents on the side of the field was great to see and was much appreciated.
