Our main objective at the College is to encourage participation in music within a department which promotes excellence, and is open-minded to all genres of music. We provide students the opportunity to take music as a subject or as an extracurricular activity.
Any student may take lessons in one or more of the following instruments:
– Church Organ
– Voice (singing)
– Double bass
– French horn
– Guitar (acoustic & electric)
– Bass guitar
– Drum kit
The school has a String Ensemble, two Jazz Bands, a School Choir a Drum line to support this programme.
If a student wants to receive instrumental lessons at the school, the Music Registration Form 2018 needs to be completed and emailed to the Director of Music, Dr Diederick Basson.
An outstanding feature of the school is how it embraces music performances with encouragement and enthusiasm. We provide many opportunities for our students and ensembles to perform. They include the following:
Lunch Hour Concerts
Music Maestro Competition (open to schools in the Boland/Helderberg area)
Opus Campus Composition Competition
Grade 8 Concert
Annual Music Tour
Major school functions and assemblies
EISTEDDFODS, COMPETITIONS AND EXAMINATIONS
Students are encouraged to take part in local eisteddfods, music competitions and examinations. We have a large number of students sitting external examinations each year. Our students write the theory examinations by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and play the practical examinations from either the ABRSM or the Trinity College of London. These two bodies give UCAS credits which can be used when a student applies to an overseas University or College.
