Cape Town International Hockey Festival – 22 to 26 July 2015

The 1st Team Boys and Girls hockey sides took part in the Cape Town International Hockey Festival this past week.

The Somerset College 1st Team Girls excelled at the Festival finishing an impressive 4thout of 22 competing girls’ teams.  The girls played with passion and solid teamwork in all their fixtures with a highlight en-route to the semi-finals being a 2-0 victory over Rhenish Girls High School, a team with whom we had drawn 2-2 in a league fixture earlier in the year.  The future looks very bright for this young side and 2016 promises to bring much more success.

The Boys team also had an impressive week and finished 6th out of 24 competing boys teams.  We played some fantastic hockey and were unfortunate to face Paul Roos, who were playing superb hockey, in a Quarter Final.  We lost this match 3-0 and Paul Roos went on to win the tournament. The boys won their first play-off match against Edgemead 3-1 and lost our 5th/6th playoff game against Pearson on showdowns.  The boys were impressive throughout the week.
