Somerset College took part in the St Andrew’s Tennis Festival from 15 to 17 February. The team consisted of Annalie Swanepoel, Sharlene Chigariro, Lisa Verwey, Rebecca Brody (Captain) and Hanna van Heerden. They were accompanied by Mrs Claire Engelbrecht, Team manager and James Dunn, coach. The eight schools that participated in the festival were St Mary’s Waverley, St Mary’s Kloof, St Andrews JHB, Menlo Park, Pretoria Girls, St Cyprians, Wykeham Collegiate and Somerset College. Our U16 Girls’ Water Polo team played against Bloemhof Girls’ High at Somerset College on Thursday afternoon. They won the match 23-0. The U14 Girls’ team also played against Bloemhof Girls’ High and won their match 6-4.

Somerset College’s 1st team Boys’ Water Polo participated in the Knysna Oakhill Chukka Festival this weekend.  The results were as follows: We won 9-1 against Oakhill College (host school); We won 14-0 against Graeme College, Grahamstown; We won 6-4 against Pinelands High; We lost 5-6 against Woodridge College and We won 6-2 against St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown.

Convincing victories by Sean Irwin (8-5) and especially Oliver Pritchett (8-0) helped the Somerset College boys’ 2nd team beat Parel Vallei by 39 games to 32 on our courts on Monday, 11 February. The other two players in the team were Michael Atkinson and Joseph Edwards.
