Over the past week, the Somerset College girls’ tennis players completed their last two fixtures for this year. On Wednesday, 24 October, the girls’ first Tennis team played against Rhenish in a Boland Central league fixture. They won their match by 4 matches to 2. On Friday, 19 October, the boys’ and girls’ first tennis teams played against Parel Vallei in a Boland Central league fixture. Valedictory provides us with one of those lockdown “moments in time” on your life journey. We had the pleasure of listening to Alison Harris addressing Somerset College Senior School at the Valedictory ceremony on Tuesday 16 October. Alison shared her journey since 2009 and highlighted some of the events that helped to shape her life and her enterprise, Sk8 for Gr8. Thank you to all involved in the running of the event. Despite the smaller venue, the regatta went on without a hitch and was actually one of the largest ergo regattas we have hosted in the last few years. On Friday, 31 August and Saturday, 1 September, Somerset College competed in the annual Dirkie Uys Doubles and Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament which took place in Moorreesburg. This is a gruelling and extremely competitive tournament during which time three matches are played on Friday two matches are played on Saturday. Play started at 7.00 in the morning with very little rest between the fixtures.
