Admissions

Book your virtual college tour here.

If you would like to register your child for possible admission to Somerset College please complete the procedure here. Please note that a non-refundable application fee of R500 is payable upon submission of the application form. We do not accept students who are entering Grades 11 or 12. Please note the school requires written consent from both parents/guardians of a child wanting admission into Somerset College.

Applications for Gr 8 in 2024 are still open, but please be aware that as we have already shortlisted potential candidates for our Scholarship Programme, we will not be able to consider any new applicants for the Programme.

Pre-Preparatory School Assessment Process

There is no formal assessment process for Gr 000 and Gr 00. Successful applicants for Gr R who live locally are invited to spend a morning with us during November for a baseline observation.
Successful Gr R applicants who live at a distance from the school will be assessed at the start of the new academic year.

Preparatory School Assessment Process

Once a place becomes available and the paperwork is complete, applicants to the Preparatory School will complete an Assessment. The Assessment looks at Literacy (English and Afrikaans) and Numeracy levels and can take place at the applicant’s current school, for students living at a distance from Somerset College. Once this is done, the Head of the school meets with both parents, before an offer of a place is made. This meeting can take place online if required.

Senior School Assessment Process

All applicants to Somerset College write Assessments in English and Mathematics and thereafter the Head of College and Head of the relevant Boarding House (should the application include Boarding) meet with the student and parents before an offer of place is made. The Assessments can be written at the current school and the meeting can be done online, for students living at a distance from Somerset College.
