The 1st cricket team made the journey up the coast to Knysna to play Oakhill and Glenwood House. Unfortunately, both these games were washed out so it was not possible to play any cricket.
The second part of our tour was to the KFC Point High School Cricket Week held in Mossel Bay. The Festival is played around the SWD area.
Game 1 was against Nico Malan.
We batted first and scored 147 runs. Matthew Coltman top scored with a well-played 36.
An excellent opening spell from William Sendin, 4 for 10 in 5 overs and Aidan Cunningham, 4 for 14 in 5 overs put Nico Malan under early pressure. Eventually they were bowled out for 63, thus College won by 84 runs.
Game 2 was against Langenhoven Gym in Oudtshoorn.
College batted first and Vezi Mntungwa held the innings together with a superb 91, very unlucky not to get his first 100 for College. Franco Carstens also batted well scoring 50. College were all out in the 38th over for 186.
Langenhoven got off to a flyer passing 50 in the 6th over. A fantastic spell of slow left arm bowling by Franco Carstens slowed the run rate and with this, wickets began to fall. Carstens ended with 2 for 16 in his 9 overs and Michael Burke 2 for 4 in 4 overs. The College team picked up their game and in an exciting and very tense final few overs. Langenhoven finished on the same score as College thus tying the game.
Game 3 was against a Wynberg Boys’ Select Team.
Wynberg batted first and scored 184. A bowling performance that the College boys would rather forget, ill disciplined with far too many wides and wayward bowling.
College started solidly but were then blown away by the Wynberg opening bowler who picked up 7 wickets, which included a hat trick. College were bowled out for 64, thus losing by 120 runs.
I would like to thank the boys for an enjoyable, yet frustrating, tour. Thank you to the parents who travelled to come and support the team.
